Earliest signal before project starts
The problem

The best time to reach a project owner is before the project starts. Permits tell you that.

A building permit is filed before the contractor is hired, before the materials are ordered, before the real estate agent lists it. It’s the earliest public signal that a project is happening β€” and almost no one is watching.

πŸ”¨

Contractors find out about projects too late

By the time a project shows up on a bid board, the GC is already selected. The permit filing β€” weeks or months earlier β€” is the real opportunity window.

🏘️

Investors miss neighborhood signals

A cluster of renovation permits in one zip code predicts neighborhood appreciation 12–18 months before it shows up in sale price data. Permits are leading, prices are lagging.

πŸ“¦

Suppliers don’t know where demand is going

Lumber yards, HVAC suppliers, window manufacturers β€” permit data tells you where construction activity is accelerating in your region before the orders arrive.

πŸ”

Permit portals are a city-by-city mess

Every municipality has a different permit portal, search interface, and update cadence. Monitoring multiple jurisdictions manually is a full-time job. We do it instead.

What you get

New permits, categorized and summarized, every day.

Our agent monitors building permit databases daily, categorizes permits by type and value, and publishes plain-English summaries β€” project address, permit type, estimated value, and owner/contractor info where available.

“I run an HVAC company. Building Permits tells me every new commercial build-out within 30 miles the day the permit is filed β€” before the GC has even submitted bids. I’ve gone from reactive to proactive on commercial work. Three new commercial contracts this quarter came directly from permit alerts.”

Owner, Commercial HVAC Company

“I invest in residential real estate and use permit data as my primary market signal. When renovation permit volume in a zip code jumps 30% over 4 weeks, I start looking at what’s for sale there. Prices always follow. Building Permits gave me that lead time.”
Angela T.
Residential Real Estate Investor

“I manage regional sales for a building materials distributor. Permit data is the single best leading indicator of where our demand is going to come from in the next 60–90 days. We use it to pre-position inventory in the right warehouses. Building Permits is part of our S&OP process now.”

Regional Sales Manager, Building Materials

Questions

FAQ

Where does the permit data come from?
Building permit data is sourced from municipal permit databases, the U.S. Census Bureau’s Building Permits Survey, and local government open data portals. Coverage varies by municipality β€” larger metros have daily feeds; smaller jurisdictions update weekly.

Which geographic areas do you cover?
We currently focus on major metropolitan areas and their surrounding counties. Coverage is expanding as we add more municipal data feeds. The weekly digest highlights the highest-volume and highest-value markets we monitor.

Do you cover demolition permits?
Yes. Demolition permits are included and tagged separately β€” they often signal upcoming new construction on the same parcel, which is an early indicator of significant development activity.

How current is the permit data?
Our agent runs daily, Monday through Friday. For municipalities with real-time permit feeds, data appears on the site within 24 hours of filing. For jurisdictions with weekly batch updates, data appears the day their feed updates.
